The Hawaii Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (HISSAR) offers exciting opportunities to honor and promote our heritage. Today we ask your help in sustaining that time-honored heritage.
Weve come a long way since the first organizational meeting of the Hawaii Society was held on June 17, 1895. The Hawaii Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is a historical, educational, and patriotic non-profit corporation that seeks to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, an appreciation for true patriotism, a respect for our national symbols, the value of American citizenship and the unifying force of e pluribus unum that has created, from the people of many nations, one nation and one people.
We do this by perpetuating the stories of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, tragedy, and triumph of the men who achieved the independence of the American people. We believe that these stories are universal ones of man’s eternal struggle against tyranny, relevant to all time, and will inspire and strengthen each succeeding generation as it too is called upon to defend our freedoms on the battlefield and in our public institutions.
What do we do? Our current activities include the awarding of medals and certificates to outstanding J.R.O.T.C. and R.O.T.C. cadets, Eagle Boy Scouts, fire department and law enforcement officials, and to those who honor the American flag in a special manner. The Knight Essay and other scholarly activities foster scholarly appreciation of our patriotic heritage among Hawaiis young people. The Hawaii Society joined thousands around the world in honoring the 300th birthday of Benjamin Franklin, and we promote the celebrating of Americas Independence each July 4. We have a new web site at www.hawaiisar.org with an array of resources and information at your fingertips.
